AAQG Meeting April 12, 2011

Posted in Business on April 18th, 2011

Louise called the meeting to order. There were 63 members and 3 guests present. Guests were introduced and welcomed by Louise. Papers were passed out for voting for the Mary Conkel award. The award will be presented at the May meeting.
Quilt Show Co-Chairs Janeen and Tamara advised there were 33 that attended the Friday night sewing. Next year there will be four evenings to participate. Deb Dickerson is passing out the raffle tickets tonight. Please see her to pick up yours. The ticket prices are $1 for 1 or $5 for 6 tickets. The raffle quilt has been appraised at $2100. We are in need of country store items, so please consider making a donation. The quilt show entry forms are needed by June 1st so that the booklet can be prepared. Forms are available on the web site or paper forms are here tonight. The Cake Me I’m Yours menu sounds delicious! The church providing the food during the Quilt show will have a different menu each day. There are MANY volunteer opportunities open to help at the quilt show. The volunteers will receive a pin for working 2 sessions, a bag for working 3 sessions and a pin and a bag for working 4+ sessions. (A session is considered 2 hours) There is still some room available in the classes during the Quilt show. A show-of-hands vote was taken for the new name of the country store. AAQG Sewtique will be our new name.
Retreat Chair Mary Lee pronounced the Newton retreat a great success! All 32 attending had a great time. We saw several projects that were completed at the retreat during show and tell. Mary Lee will send out thank you notes to all the shops that donated items.
Program Chair Sharon reminded us the May guild meeting will be the Board challenge, Color In the Lines. The June program will be Tula Pink, My Life in Repeat.
Annemarie Yohnk, Minnesota author, designer and quilter, presented a stunning trunk show of antique redwork quilts from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She entertained us with well-researched stories about the owners and makers of these wonderful pieces as well as tales of her own antics at the sales and auctions where she purchased them. We learned that “redwork” can be blue, black, yellow, green or pink. She shared that she purchased her very first antique quilt 25 years ago at Stillwater, MN.
Directors at Large Jan and Sharon presented the fat quarter drawing. This month was Easter fabrics. The door prizes were given and birthdays were honored. Birthday girls shared their favorite thing about Easter. Did you notice a common theme about candy? Show and tell and refreshments finished out the meeting.

Quilting Connection will also be making a donation. Ticket sales for the raffle quilt have begun. Tickets will be distributed at the guild meeting. Deb Dickerson is coordinating the ticket sales. There are still 3 baskets available for adoption. Quilters Cupboard has generously agreed to be the drop off site for quilts for the show. Quilt entry forms will be available at the meeting and on the web site. The raffle quilt has been appraised at $2100. The lucky winner of the quilt will also receive the appraisal report.
Program Chair Sharon Lesan advised the workshop for May by Shelly Burge has been cancelled. The February and March workshops were well attended and very successful. Annemarie Yohnk, presenting Redwork in the Beginning. Minnesota designer and teacher, will be our April speaker. If interested in dinner with the speaker please let Sharon know.
Retreat Chair Mary Lee is very excited about this weekend’s quilt retreat. All the preparation has been done and all that is left is the fun and fellowship of the weekend. The retreat opens Thursday at 9 am. There are a total of 30 for the weekend and 2 that will be coming during the daytime. There are lots of prizes ready for each participant.
Director at Large Elect Sharon McCarthy reminds us the fat quarter for April is Easter themed.
Communication Chair Susan provided instruction booklets for the website. They will be so helpful for this board and future boards to update the web information.
Retreat Chair Elect Connie had been visiting potential retreat options. She is anxious to attend the Newton retreat this weekend as well.
Secretary Kathy advised there are quite a few membership directories left over this year. She recommends ordering less booklets next year and re-ordering if necessary rather than having too many. Louise will advise the members at the guild meeting that they are available if anyone hasn’t received their copy.
Meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
