AAQG Meeting — June 21, 2011
Posted in Business on June 27th, 2011Louise called the meeting to order and requested cell phones be turned off. We are starting to think about the board for next year already. Vice President Tamara suggested that anyone interested in helping on the board should contact her. There are several great opportunities. Quilt Co-Chairs Janeen and Tamara are searching for some volunteers for the Saturday of the Quilt Show. Please consider helping with this event. We have 21 vendors and 160 quilts to see during the show. The lunch each day of the show is only $6 and there will be sweets for you as well. Deb Dickerson advised there have been 997 tickets sold so far. Thanks for all you help in selling tickets. Retreat Chair Connie reminds us to save just $15 each month for the April 19-22, 2012 quilt retreat.
Our speaker this evening is Tula Pink. Tula is an exciting young graphic artist and fabric designer who has worked in everything from museums to the rock music industry. She says that fabric and sewing have been a constant in her life and calls herself “an exiled rock princess on a throne of bolts and bobbins”. She credits her Mom with her entry into fabric design as she gave her the gentle nudge to pursue her options. During her free time while she was working for Capital Records Tula began drawing fabric lines. We are so glad she did. Her collections are delightful. Her first email sent to Moda fabrics resulted in her fabric line being in production 36 hours later. What a wonderful gift she has. She and her mother own a fabric shop in Stewartsville, Missouri. Her latest line is Prince Charming. It is being produced through Westminster Fibers. We all enjoyed her stories of the fabric line as well as the hidden animals in some of the prints.
Directors at Large Jan and Sharon finished out our meeting with the fat quarter lottery, won by Louise Whitlow. June birthdays were celebrated and we finished our meeting with some delicious treats.
Respectfully submitted,
