Posted in Programs on July 31st, 2011

Join us on August 9 for program and trunk show by Lynn Doyle of Bloomin’ Minds.   Lynn’s seasonal designs define “light-hearted” and “whimsical”.  We have scheduled her program for late in the year as most of her designs are for autumn/winter holidays–Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas.  Lynn will have patterns and kits for sale so you can get a start on your holiday projects.  See her designs at bloominminds.com.  Join Lynn for an early supper before Guild at Okoboji Grill at 5:00 PM.

There were 56 members present.  Vice President Tamara Watts-McPhail is encouraging guild members to step up and be on the board.  There are several opportunities available.  It is a great way to meet people.  Voting for the board will be held next month, so please contact the nominating committee:  Susan Body, Janet Neuschwanger or Tamara Watts-McPhail if you or someone you know is interested in one of the positions open.
The winner of the Raffle Quilt was Sidney Sloan, of Arkansas.  Her ticket was sold to her by her grandmother, Patti Whitham.  Patti shared with us that Sidney has her old sewing machine and likes to sew.  She was very excited to be the winner of the quilt!

Program Chair Sharon Lesan reminds us that the August program will be “Bloomin’ Minds” by appliqué artist Lynn Doyle.

meet great people, please consider being on

the board.  If you are interested please call or

talk to a board member at the meeting July 19th.

We will be doing our Quilt Show wrap up on the

“Pink” June Program, look forward to rest of summer programs

Posted in Programs on July 17th, 2011

Tula Pink entertained and informed us at the June 14 meeting.  Tula (yes, that’s her real name) is an exciting young graphic artist and fabric designer who has worked in everything from museums to the rock music industry. She says that fabric and sewing have been a constant in her life and calls herself “an exiled rock princess on a throne of bolts and bobbins”.  She credits her Mom with her entry into fabric design as she gave her the gentle nudge to pursue her options.  During her free time while she was working for Capital Records Tula began drawing fabric lines.  We are so glad she did.  Her collections are delightful.  Her first email sent to Moda fabrics resulted in her fabric line being in production 36 hours later.  What a wonderful gift she has.  She and her mother own a fabric shop in Stewartsville, Missouri.  Her latest line is Prince Charming.  It is being produced through Westminster Fibers.  We all enjoyed her stories of the fabric line as well as the hidden animals in some of the prints.

Don’t miss the rest of our summer programs with the July 19 “QuiltFest Wrap-up” and our last program of this program year on August 9 with “Bloomin’ Minds” applique artist Lynn Doyle.

This is the final week before the Quilt Show, so there are a lot of last minute things to be done before the show.  Quilt Show Co-Chairs Tamara and Janeen advised that those helping with the pickup of the supplies from the storage unit are to meet at 6:30 pm on Wednesday.  Sharon will pick up the quilts that have been dropped off at Quilter’s Cupboard on Wednesday.  Thursday the set up will begin at 8:00 am at the Baptist College.  There will be two people checking in the quilts on Thursday.  There are 21 paid vendors coming to the quilt show.  The food caterers are excited to prepare the food for us.  Plan to come hungry to try out their goodies.  The quilters signed up for the Friday class can come as early as 8:30 am to set up their equipment for the 9:00 am class.  Janeen has been reminding her facebook friends with a countdown for the upcoming Quilt Show and encourages anyone to also remind their own facebook friends.  The Raffle Quilt drawing will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday.  Guild members can pick up their quilts at 4:00 pm on Saturday.  Children and Families of Iowa will pick up all the donation quilts at the end of the Quilt Show on Saturday.  She will also speak at the July meeting.
We have interest so far in next year’s Treasurer Position.  We still need volunteers for Director-at-Large Elect, Retreat chair-elect, Vice President, Quilt show chair-elect and Communications elect.  Please consider helping your guild by being on the board.  It is a great way to get involved.
There has been a lot of positive feedback on the June program, Tula Pink.  Thanks to Sharon for planning the programs.  No report this month from Retreat Chair, Connie.  No report this month from Director at Large Elect, Sharon.
July guild meeting will be the wrap up for the Quilt Show.  Awards will be presented for the peoples’ choice awards.
Meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Evers
