8-9-11 Guild Meeting
Posted in Business on August 23rd, 2011President Louise Whitlow called the meeting to order. There were 52 members present and 3 guests. Louise thanked the guild for making her time as president a good experience. She was presented with a gift from the guild members of a collection of purple fat quarters (Her favorite color).
Vice President Tamara Watts-McPhail read some of the thank you letters the guild received from the children who received donation quilts given to Children and Families of Iowa. The notes were very touching.
The new Board Members were voted on by a show of hands. Pam Messer made a motion to close the election. The motion was seconded by Jenna Ingle. The new board members are: Jan Hart, Treasurer, Deb Dickerson, Director at Large Elect, Deb Pierschbacher, Retreat Chair Elect, Connie Lovelady and Janet Neuschwanger, Quilt Show Co-Chair Elects and Cathy Sanders, Program Chair Elect.
The Quilt show was successful with a profit this year. The revenue was $13,399.74, expenses $8978.89 with a net profit of $4420.85.
Retreat Chair Connie Lovelady shared that the theme of the upcoming Quilt retreat is, “Tool Time”. This is a time to learn about those tools and rulers that you have at home and aren’t quite sure how to use them. There will be some presentations at the retreat regarding different tools. Remember to save some money each month for the retreat.
Program Chair Sharon Lesan introduced our speaker for this evening, Lynn Doyle, of Bloomin’ Minds Designs in Council Bluffs. She entertained us with her trunk show of delightfully whimsical designs–and the stories behind them. Lynn got her start sewing in 1963 with 4H. Many in our group could relate to her 4H background. There were brisk sales after Lynn’s presentation of her many patterns and kits—who doesn’t need another pattern for inspiration.
Our new Program Chair Janet Neuschwanger presented her story board of next year’s speakers. She has been hard at work getting interesting people to speak at our meetings! We will start out in September with Heidi Kaisand, “The Family Jewels”.
The new guild year starts next month. The board will be providing the treats for September. See Director at Large Sharon McCarthy to sign up for your turn to bring treats. The fat quarter lottery was won by Janet Neuschwanger. There were four door prizes donated by our speaker. August birthdays were celebrated. Show and tell is always a delight.
President Louise Whitlow requested that our guild work on a Round-Robin quilt. Louise got the quilt started and has purchased fabric for it. There are no rules about what you can add to the quilt. Just add something, and then pass it on to the next person or small group for their contribution. She would like to have it completed to put into next summer’s Quilt Show.
The meeting was adjourned and finished with treats and fellowship.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Evers
