AAQG Meeting 9-13-11

Posted in Business on September 23rd, 2011

Meeting was called to order by President Tamara Watts-McPhail.  There were 58 members present.  Tamara discussed the fact that we still need positions of Vice President and Program Chair-Elect to be filled this year.  Jenna Ingle has offered by be the Vice President; however, she does have schedule conflicts this year.  She would not be able to attend most of the board meetings this year, but will have her time re-arranged by next year when she would be president.  A motion was made to elect Jenna to the VP position.  Motion carried. Tamara advised the guild members that the budget sheet for the upcoming year has been mailed to them.  Please contact her or any of the board with questions you may have or bring your questions to the next meeting.
Program Chair Janet Neuschwanger shared the December meeting will be a pot luck dinner along with a silent auction like the one that was held last year.  Be thinking of something you may want to bring for the auction.  Last year we had cinnamon rolls to CDs to quilting items.  It was fun to “win” the bid on an item.
Our speaker for the evening was Heidi Kaisand.  Heidi currently lives in Conrad, Iowa.  She grew up in Northwood, IA.  Her grandmother was a very big influence in her life and in her love of quilting.  Since September 2007 Heidi has been the National Sales Manager for APQS, based in Carroll, Iowa.  They manufacture quilting machines.  Heidi shared her family story and how she was influenced by them.  She and her husband collect antique tractors as well as fabric.  Heidi is starting a new venture, Hen & Chicks Studio in Conrad.  The main level will be a retail store featuring quilting and scrapbooking necessities.  The Nest is located in the second floor of the building and will accommodate 20 quilters.  It will be a perfect get away location.  You may find out more information at www.henandchicksstudio.com .
Director at Large, Sharon McCarthy presented the fat quarter lottery to Kathy Evers.  It was a team spirit theme this month. (Iowa/Iowa State) Sharon shared a personal story of where she was on 9-11-01 that led to the theme of this evening’s door prizes.  They were red, white and blue terrific.  Prizes were won by Donita Link, Joan Maust and Barb Pighetti.
Meeting was rounded out by show and tell, treats and fellowship.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Evers
