CATEGORIES

This is not a judged show.  Prizes are awarded for most categories based on viewer’s choice.  There is also an option for “Best of Show”.

  • Christmas in July:
    • The quilt top must have Christmas related items visible on the quilt top.
    • No size restrictions.
  • Traditional: Classic piecing (like Grandma made) with rows and columns; repeating blocks; sampler quilts.
  • Modern: Made with use of bold colors and prints; high contrast and graphic areas of solid color; change of “traditional” block & layout.
  • Applique: Both hand and machine applique accepted; at least 50% of item must be applique.
  • Mixed Technique: Two or more techniques used to create the entry.
  • UFO Greater than five (5) years: Entry started in or before 2011.
  • Original/Innovative Design/Art: Original design of entrant; innovative design based on pattern idea.
  • Batik: Top must be 100% batik fabric.
  • “Off the Bed”: Quilted clothing, purses, totes, table runners, table toppers, wall hangings; any item you would not use to cover up with.
  • Guild Challenges (no viewer’s choice voting): Your entries from any of the challenges this year (Director-at-Large or President) or a finished quilt with your KISS blocks.

RAFFLE QUILT SALES

  • Drawing will be at the quilt show on July 7 at 3:00 p.m.
  • Our Raffle Quilt pattern is Merry Christmas by Heart to Hand.
  • The wool applique was completed by many guild members, it was assembled by Tami Watts-McPhail, and custom quilting from Ilene Bartos.
  • Dimensions are 58 x 72
  • Tickets are 1 for $2.00 or 5 for $5.00.
  • Red tickets will be available at the guild meetings, if you prefer those.
  • Link to the name tracking form.
    • Collect name, phone, quantity, and money for selling tickets and record it on this sheet.  Turn the sheet into Janet at guild meetings, and she’ll turn those names into labels for tickets for the drawing.
    • Make sure they are writing legibly, or we won’t be able to contact the winner.

QUILT ENTRY INFORMATION

  • Good news – There is no limit to the number of entries you can enter!  With approximately 80 members of the guild, and we want 200 entries – that means we want an average of 2.5 entries per person.
  • Your entries are not judged.  The voting is “viewers choice”, which means our attendees vote for the quilts they like the best.  This is an opportunity for us to share our talents with the community.

  • Dropoff options
    • Quilt show setup morning, Thursday July 5 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
    • Quilter’s Cupboard in Ankeny the week before the show.  Tuesday, July 3 is the last day you may drop off at QC.  They are open until 5:30 p.m.
      • If your quilt is in a pillowcase that you want returned, please make sure the pillowcase is clearly marked.
  • ID Tags
    • Each entry must have an ID tag attached to it.  Place ID tag into a baggie and attach front of the quilt.  While looking at the front of the quilt, the baggie should be attached to the left hand side, about 2/3 of the way down the quilt.  This will show the setup crew what direction the quilt should be hung.
    • Fold the quilt so that the ID tag is showing information on top of the item.  This will help to make check in more efficient.

  • Pick-up
    • All entries MUST be picked up on Saturday, July 7 between 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
    • If someone else is picking up your entries, they must have written permission to take your entries.
  • Please remember entries are not insured by the guild.

BED TURNING ENTRIES

  • We will have the bed turning opportunity again this year.  Please submit your entries by June 12.

VOLUNTEER SIGNUP

Do you want to help at the Show and aren’t sure how?  Sign up to volunteer.  We have many different options!!!

  • Link to online signup
  • Setup – Many hands make light work!  We need to check in entries, organize, and hang them.  Display items in the Country Store.  Setup the member table with books/magazines.  Setup donation quilts.  Prep food for Quilter’s Cafe.
  • Signage – This person will put out signs in designated places on Thursday July 5 and pick them up after the show on Saturday July 7.
  • Make Lemon Bars or Scotcheroos – Click here for the recipes.  We need to have all bars made with the same recipe, so that the bars are consistent.  Do NOT cut the bars, and use a disposable pan.  
  • During Friday and Saturday of the show, we have several positions with 2 hour time slots.
    • Admissions – Welcome our guests and collect money for entry into the show.  July 15-16
    • Guild Table – Answer information about the guild.  Keep the books/magazines organized on the table.
    • Country Store – Sell items at the Country Store
    • Quilter’s Cafe – Serve lunch and dessert items to attendees.  Some food preperation will be needed.
    • Raffle Quilt Table – Sell tickets for the Raffle quilt
    • White Glove – Walk around the quilts, and offer to show backings, etc.  You will wear white gloves to touch the quilts.
    • Vendor Hospitality – Help vendors by getting them drinks, watching their booth when they need a quick break, or whatever they may need!
    • Bed Turning – Help by holding quilts or being the narrator of during our bed turning.
  • Teardown – This is Saturday July 7.  This involves checking out quilts being picked up, taking down quilts, cleaning up the kitchen and dining area, clearing off members table, packing up Country Store remaining items, etc.
  • Count Ballots – This is when we get to go through all of the ballots that were cast for voting on entries.  This will be Sunday afternoon July 8 and the location is TBD.
