Show and Tell

Show & Tell Pictures

After the program at our monthly meetings, the guild members host an impromptu "Show and Tell" session. This gives the members a chance to see other members completed projects.

Community Service

The AAQG sponsors a variety of projects in which members use their sewing and quilting skills to contribute to the greater Ankeny area.

Our guild members have generously made and donated over 100 quilts to Children & Family Services of Iowa and Child Serve in 2008. These beautiful quilts will be on display at our quilt show in July.

The Ankeny Area Quilt Guild has had the opportunity to send quilts to two African orphanages this year. The first orphanage is The Pines in South Africa, a past Ankeny resident, Lois (Cain ) Niehoff and her husband Brian are general managers at The Pines providing health care and building construction. The second orphanage is in Nigeria, Cornerstone of Hope you may have seen it's founder Eric Idehen on WHO tv last week. In total we have sent 23 twin size quilts to these two organizations.

Retreat 2009

The 2009 Quilt Retreat is scheduled for Thursday March 26th through Sunday, March 29th at the Christian Conference Center in Newton. More details will be available in January 2009!

Join the fun and spend lots of time sewing, doing some shopping (we have discounts arranged at local shops for retreaters), a little dancing and having a great time with fellow quilters. The retreat is also an opportunity to improve your quilting skills as there are so many quilters at the retreat who are willing to help if you get stuck on one of your quilting projects.

Come and join the fun, you'll get hooked on retreating!

Friday 2:00 pm— Grinnell Fiber Works presents Embellishments of Quilts-Painting

Sue Kluber explains her process of adding embellishments—Angelina fibers, yarns, beads and making her own "fabrics" from the same using hot and cold water solubles. Shiva oil paint sticks are another tool she uses for embellishments.

Saturday, 10:00 am—Platte Branch Design Company presents "3 x 3 – Shuffling The Deck"

Belinda Rinehart and Jan Heddinger present a lecture and demonstration of their 3 x 3 concept. Shuffling The Deck, is the first in a series of booklets that teach you how to create your own designs using one block, multiple layouts and three border options. We've done the hard part – so you go straight to the fun! In addition to the 3 x 3 concept, we will present a trunk show of our designs and a few family heirlooms, including a century-old crazy quilt.

Saturday, 2:00 pm—Adel Quilting & Dry Goods Co. presents New Tools of the Trade

Jacque Johnson will present "Tools of the Trade". Based on personal experience and customer favorites, Jacque will demo several quilting tools and present a trunk show of resulting quilts. The rulers Jacque will demo are The X-Ruler, The Fussy Cutter and The Wonder Ruler. In addition to several favorite notions, she will also show using fabric as a "tool" to make kaleidoscope quilts. Among the many quilts in this trunk show, some will come directly from the pattern designers.
