The next board meeting will be Tuesday, June 3, 2008, 6:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny.
PLEASE REMEMBER—OUR NEXT GUILD MEETING IS ON THE THIRD TUESDAY OF JUNE—June 17th!
It's Details by Diane from Decorah, Iowa!
Be ready to have a lot of fun with a Details by Diane trunk show! Diane designs quilts that are easy and fun to make. Most of her art quilts have a stained glass look which is achieved by fusing colorful pieces of fabric onto a black fabric background. Her patterns are not time consuming and are much less expensive than using the bias leading. Many quilters have said it looks like soft stained glass. She will give a show and tell of her works with kits and patterns for sale after the lecture.
Quilt entry forms are due June 9th.
Be sure to read the rules carefully! No late entry forms will be accepted.
Entry forms must be postmarked by June 9, 2008. Mail to: AAQG, Quiltfest 2008, P.O. Box 961, Ankeny, IA 50021— or—Forms may also be left at Quilter's Cupboard or the Ankeny Sewing Center until the end of business on June 9.
Hello Fellow Quilters!
Are your items for the Quilt Show about ready? Get those forms in quick to Sharon or Anne, if you haven't done so.
Wasn't that a great presentation by Peggy Horras at our last meeting? I will never look at hankies the same way again!
Don't forget our meeting in June will be held the third Tuesday, rather than the second, because of Vacation Bible School being held at the church. Also, remember to bring your 12'' squares of interesting print or costume fabric to the next meeting for the kid's art show. The pieces should be given to Linda Schlenker.
The votes have been cast and counted (by JoAnn Dyar, Therese Lumley and me) for the Mary Conkle Award, and the award will be given out at the June meeting.
TIP of the month: For machine quilting—Instead of making the bunch of very small stitches at the beginning, just start with your normal quilting stitch length, leaving a tail. When finished quilting, make the quilter's knot just as in hand quilting, burying the knot and the thread in the batting. Works beautifully and looks ever so much nicer.
Happy quilting!

5/13/08 AAQG Guild Meeting
The meeting was called to order by President Cyndee D. She reminded us that our June meeting will be on the 3rd Tues, June 17. Jenna introduced the American Culture class for AHS—Amanda and Megan along with high school teacher Dennis Adamson. They did a presentation on the Ankeny Historical Society/Museum. They updated us on how the museum has changed and how this class of 40 juniors and two AHS staff are helping to incorporate the newest technology and presenting Ankeny's History. The Museum is located at SW 3rd and School Street. They can use volunteers, artifacts (items to donate), financial contributions or just take a tour of the museum. Contact Dennis Adamson through AHS of you would like to help. Linda Schlenker is collecting 12" fabric squares to be made into puppets at the Art Show (June 28). Bring bright colored or costume looking fabric (12 in sq.) to the June meeting. Quilt Show volunteer sign-up sheets are now available, 1-2 hr. shifts, free admission one time. Please help out at the show or with food items. Sharon M.—Quilt Show Committee (from now until July)—the Raffle Quilt will be on display at the Quilt Stores who are sponsoring our show. Raffle tickets are available now and also in June. Entry forms due June 9th—you can mail them in or drop off at Quilters Cupboard or the Ankeny Sewing Center. Retreat is set for March 26-29, sign-up in Jan/Feb. Jenna introduced Pennie Horras and her program, "I must be out of my mind"—she had a great show of quilts and ideas, mistakes and lessons learned on her 20 years of quilt making. Wonderful antique "Hankies" were available to purchase as this is one workshop Pennie does. It was a very fun night, show-and-tell followed with refreshments. ArtFest Midwest or "The Other Art Show" is held the same weekend as the Des Moines Arts Festival, June 28-29 at the Varied Industries Bldg. at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. It features Iowa and regional artists and has an extensive array of free children's entertainment. The goal of presenting this show is to contribute to the enjoyment of the arts and provide a complement to the downtown Des Moines art show.
A popular segment of this art show is the" KidzDuArt" Area. The puppet-making workshop is extremely popular This year ArtFest Midwest is partnering with VSA arts of Iowa (statewide organization with a dedication to arts education and disability awareness) for the KidzDuArt family art workshops. They're looking for supplies for making puppets: fabric scraps, buttons, notions, sequins, most any craft materials! They would like fabric scraps 12" x 12" for the hand puppets made with socks, paper bags and styro heads on pencils. If you have any extras at your house please consider donating to this project—they'd love to have them!
Please bring any donations to our June guild meeting and give them to Linda Schlenker. She will deliver the donations for us. Thanks Linda!

Pennie Horras shared her quilting wisdom and delighted us with her "Hankie Quilts" at our May meeting. If you are interested in attending one of Pennie's workshops—please let Jenna Ingle know.
